Research at the cutting edge

Advances in research have contributed to a good prognosis for breast cancer. Today, nine out of ten breast cancer patients live ten years after diagnosis. Among women who continuously participate in breast cancer screening, breast cancer survival has doubled since mammography screening was introduced in the 1990s.

In Sweden, exciting research is underway that will further improve breast cancer screening. With the help of AI, researchers see that more tumors can be detected at an early stage. AI will also be important to ensure the continued supply of skills in radiology, which is a major challenge.
